THEBES, Ill. -- Gabriele "Gabbie" Mason, 57, of Thebes passed away Monday, Oct. 6, 2014, at her home.

She was born Nov. 25, 1956, in Bad Kissingen, Germany, to the late Frederick and Rita Boettcher. She and Joe Mason were married May 18, 1987, in Cape Girardeau.

Gabbie had worked in retail most of her life. She attended Metro Business College and Shawnee Community College for nursing.

Survivors include her husband, Joe Mason of the home; a son, Joseph Kyle Mason of East Cape Girardeau, Illinois; stepchildren Leslie Mason Matlock of Tamms, Illinois, and her daughter, Amanda, Christie (Mike) Seyer of Dutchtown and their children, Bobby, Bryce, Blayne, Crystal and Nick, James E. Mason (Missy) of Marquand, Missouri, and his children, Vinnie and Stoney; a great-granddaughter, Kayleigh (daughter of Crystal and J.D. McMahan); four brothers, Robert and Fred Boettcher of St. Louis, Tommy Boettcher of East Cape Girardeau and George Boettcher of Nashville, Tennessee; a sister, Teresa Fox of Dover, Delaware; and numerous other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.

Gabbie will always be remembered for her generous heart and "are you hungry?" demeanor.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lindsey Cemetery in McClure, Illinois.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the family can be made to Joe Mason and will be collected at the funeral home to help offset expenses.
