G. Robert Briner, 80, of Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau, died there Saturday, July 9, 1994.
He was born Sept. 14, 1913, in Speed, Ind., son of George W. and Edna Morgan Briner. He married Margaret Lousie Himebaugh, who died in March 1981.
Briner attended Indiana University and was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Quartermaster Corps of the U.S. Army. During World War II he was a quartermaster officer in the Pacific Theater, and supply officer in the Hawaiian and Gilbert Islands. He retired as a lieutenant colonel after 25 years service in the U.S. Army Reserve.
He retired in 1976 as a freight agent with Southern Indiana Railroad. He was a member of Senior Citizens and Masonic Buckner Lodge 631 F&AM of Sellersburg, Ind.; was active in the Greater Clark County Food Pantry, and member of Silver Creek Arts Council. Briner was a lifelong member of Speed Memorial Church.
Survivors include a son, Robert Briner of Cape Girardeau; two grandsons, and four great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at Garr Funeral Home in Sellersburg from 2-9 p.m. today.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Speed Memorial Church, with burial in Sellersburg Cemetery.
