JACKSON -- Frieda Wendel, 82, of the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau died Sunday, Jan. 18, 1998, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
She was born Aug. 21, 1915, in Cape Girardeau County, daughter of Henry and Meyhulda Geiser Schlegel. She and Wilburn Wendel were married in August 1941. He died Feb. 4, 1953.
Wendel was a former member of Emanuel United Church of Christ, where she taught Sunday School many years.
Survivors include a son, Jerry Wendel of Jackson; a daughter, Donna McDowell of Jackson; five brothers, Alvin Schlegel of Jackson, Albert Schlegel of Cape Girardeau, Richard Schlegel of Red Bud, Ill., Bill Schlegel of Kelso, Melvin Schlegel of Cohocton, Ohio; three sisters, Marie Nagel of Gordonville, Erna Duckworth of Bellevue, Neb., Mildred Brugger of St. Charles; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday.
Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Sam Roethemeyer officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery.
