Freeda Smothers, 90, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017, at Monticello House in Jackson. She was born Feb. 1, 1927, in Sikeston, Missouri, to William Otis and Lydia L. Wallace Fulkerson. She and Aaron Obed Smothers were married Feb. 26, 1947, at Dexter, Missouri. He preceded her in death June 6, 1989...

Freeda Smothers, 90, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017, at Monticello House in Jackson.

She was born Feb. 1, 1927, in Sikeston, Missouri, to William Otis and Lydia L. Wallace Fulkerson. She and Aaron Obed Smothers were married Feb. 26, 1947, at Dexter, Missouri. He preceded her in death June 6, 1989.

Freeda was a graduate of Bloomfield (Missouri) High School.

She worked as a beautician.

She was a member of Lynwood Baptist Church and the Order of Eastern Star.

Freeda enjoyed quilting, cooking and taking care of her grandkids.

Survivors include a son, Harlan (Doris) Smothers of Cape Girardeau; five grandchildren, Jason (Misty) Ross of McClure, Illinois, Jennifer (Adam) Stevens of Cape Girardeau, Sarah (Bernie) Golinski of Jackson, Caleb (Kelli) Smothers of Jackson and Bethany (Scot) Kluesner of Benton, Missouri; a son-in-law, Doug Ross of Cape Girardeau; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Tonya Sue Ross; an infant son, Michael Aaron Smothers; two sisters; and four brothers.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Mark Anderson officiating. Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
