PERRYVILLE -- Frederick J. Clifton, 80, of Perryville died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 1997, at his home.
He was born June 28, 1917, at Memfro, the son of L.S. and Flora Schindler Clifton.
He married Stella M. Hilderbrand on Aug. 7, 1943. She survives.
Clifton worked for the Army Corps of Engineer at St. Louis and farmed for most of his life. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church at Crosstown, a 3rd Degree member of Knights of Columbus Council #1263, a veteran of World War II, a member of American Legion Post #133 and VFW Post #4282, the PCA and Daisey and Patton Missouri Coon Hunters Club.
He is survived by three daughters, Carole A. Martens of Perryville, Sharon Clark of St. Louis and Sheila Rhodes of Perryville; a brother, James W. Clifton of Perryville; two sisters, Rita Vessels of St. Louis and Marie Gormley of Steeleville; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, a brother and one grandchild.
Visitation will be from 3-9 p.m. Friday and 6:30-11:10 a.m. Saturday at Young and Sons Funeral Home. Parish and Knights of Columbus wake service will be at 7 p.m. Friday, VFW wake service will be at 7:15, and American Legion wake service will be at 7:30.
Funeral Mass will be said Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with the Rev. Gerry Kelly officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
