CHARLESTON, Mo. -- Freddie "Pete" Starks, 77, of Normal, Ill., died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, at Bromenn Regional Medical Center in Normal. He is formerly of Charleston and Buffalo, N.Y.
He was born Nov. 3, 1923, in Hayti, Mo., son of Pleas and Lillie Harris Starks.
He was a retired automobile mechanic in Buffalo. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include a sister, Leola Biles Cothron of Normal; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by nine brothers and four sisters.
Friends may call from 11 to noon Saturday at Sparks Funeral Home in Charleston.
Funeral will be at noon Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Wiley Reed officiating.
Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Charleston.
