Fred O. Williams, 86, of Cape Girardeau, died Friday, April 26, 1996, at Cape Residential Care Center.
He was born Dec. 30, 1909, in Blodgett, son of Robert Lee and Carrie Lee Hurley Williams. He and Pearl J. Proctor were married Nov. 23, 1949, in Blytheville, Ark.
Williams had lived in Cape Girardeau since 1929. He worked at Marquette Cement Co. 16 years. He then was a cook with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers aboard the John I. Hay for 17 years, retiring in 1973.
He was a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ, St. Mark's Masonic Lodge 93, VFW Post 3838, and Elks Lodge 639. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Robert Williams of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Robbie Ervin of Rushville, Ill.; five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel from 4-8 p.m. today.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the chapel, with the Rev. James Caughlan officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park, with graveside rites by VFW Post 3838.
