ANNA, Ill. -- Fred Pickles, 85, of Anna died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 1998, at Union County Hospital. He was born Nov. 29, 1912, in Anna, son of Guy and Nora Hileman Pickles. ANNA, Ill. -- Fred Pickles, 85, of Anna died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 1998, at Union County Hospital.

He was born Nov. 29, 1912, in Anna, son of Guy and Nora Hileman Pickles. He and Juanita Lingle were married June 7, 1947, at Dongola.

Pickles received a bachelor of science degree in education at Southern Illinois University, and completed a year of graduate study.

He taught school in Union County more than 30 years, and was supervisor of student teachers at SIU five years. He was a member of Campground Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Alexander, Pulaski and Union County Teachers Association, and Illinois Retired Teachers Association.

Survivors include his wife; a brother, Francis Pickles, and a sister, Helen Keller, both of Florida.

He was preceded in death by a brother.

Friends may call at Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna after 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with Roger Menees officiating. Burial will be in Anna Cemetery.
