ADVANCE, Mo. -- Fred Aaron Long, 66, of Advance passed away Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2017, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau. He was born Sept. 23, 1950, in Painton, Missouri, the son of James Evans and Georgia Flowers Long. Fred was a 1968 graduate of Advance High School. He loved the Advance school and Hornet basketball. While he attended college, he worked for an architect on home construction. Later, he was a construction worker and farmer...

ADVANCE, Mo. -- Fred Aaron Long, 66, of Advance passed away Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2017, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Sept. 23, 1950, in Painton, Missouri, the son of James Evans and Georgia Flowers Long.

Fred was a 1968 graduate of Advance High School. He loved the Advance school and Hornet basketball. While he attended college, he worked for an architect on home construction. Later, he was a construction worker and farmer.

He was a born-again believer in Jesus. He was a craftsman who made beautiful things. He was a great fisherman, hunter, cook and animal lover. He was the best uncle anyone could ever ask for and also a very sweet friend.

Survivors include two sisters, Vivian (Harold) Hart of Bell City, Missouri, and Linda (Don) Stephens of Clinton, Missouri; 25 nieces and nephews; 18 great-nieces and -nephews; and 13 great-great-nieces and -nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Rodney, Grover and Tom Long; and two sisters, Carol Collingswood and Donna Myers.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance.

A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the chapel. The Rev. Don Stephens will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Cancer Society or First General Baptist Church.
