CAIRO, Ill. -- Fred Khourie, 81, of Cairo died Saturday, Jan. 11, 1997, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Feb. 20, 1915, in Cairo, son of the Lafey and Lilly Jabour Khourie. He was the owner of Khourie Brothers Department Store in Cairo before his retirement.
He was a lifelong deacon of the Cairo Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school. He also was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a member of the Cairo VFW Post 2649, the Cairo Chamber of Commerce and the Cairo Retail Merchants Association.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Khourie, of Cairo; two sons, Fred Khourie of Cairo and Michael Khourie of Mounds; a daughter, Kimberly Khourie Potts of Mounds; three sisters, Lorraine Elias of Cairo, Atter Jabour of Hayti, Mo., and Pauline Sickrey of Lilbourn, Mo.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters.
Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at the Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo, and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Cairo Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with Dr. Larry L. Potts officiating. Burial will follow in Green Lawn Memorial Gardens at Villa Ridge.
