He was born June 10, 1960 in Ames, Iowa to Fred and Mary Liz Renner Saalfeld. He grew up in Springfield, Va. and attended Longwood College.

Survivors include his parents, of Springfield, Va.
He worked for AT&T company until 1989, when he retired due to ill health. He was of the Presbyterian faith.
Ford and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
