Longtime Cape Girardeau banker Frank Steck, 76, of 1905 Perryville Road, died Friday, May 22, 1992 at Southeast Missouri Hospital. His death followed a brief illness.
Before retiring in 1982, Steck served as vice president of Boatmen's Bank in Cape Girardeau for 29 years.
Steck was born May 11, 1916 in Benton, son of the late Roscoe and Grace Steck. He married Colleen McLane on Nov. 22, 1941. She died in 1983.
In 1985, Steck married Marilyn Below, who survives.
Steck attended Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau and graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia and the University of Wisconsin School of Banking in Madison. He also trained at Harvard.
A World War II veteran, Steck served as a lieutenant in the Navy and as an intelligence officer. He taught agriculture to immigrants for the government in Texas and later worked as an agriculture instructor in New Madrid and Scott counties.
Steck handled agricultural loans for many farmers in Southeast Missouri and was a farmer himself in both Missouri and Illinois.
He was a real estate broker and member of the Cape County Board of Realtors. Steck also served as an officer of the Southeast Missouri District Fair Board for many years.
He was a member of Centenary Methodist Church, the Methodist Men's Club, Rotary Club, American Bankers Association, the Association of Rural Appraisers, and many other community and youth organizations in Cape Girardeau and Scott counties.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, Tom Steck of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Susan Koepp of Benton; a brother, Fred Steck of Memphis; sisters Julia Carr, Gretta Miller, and Dorothy McQuerry, all of St. Louis; a step-daughter, Scarlett Dittlinger of Cape Girardeau; and four grandchildren.
One son preceded him in death.
A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Centenary Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau, with the Rev. Neil Stein officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.
Visitation will be held after 4 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel.
