Frank Estes Osborn, 77, of Cape Girardeau passed away Thursday afternoon, July 24, 2003, at the Lutheran Home, following a brief illness.
He was born March 11, 1926, in Centralia, Ill., son of Frank Stanton and Lela Mary Estes Osborn. He and Bernice Treloggen were married June 10, 1951, in Centralia.
Mr. Osborn graduated from Centralia Township High School. He served four years in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He received a bachelor of science degree in business administration from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1952.
Mr. and Mrs. Osborn moved to Cape Girardeau in 1953 from St. Louis, where he was a senior sales representative with Burroughs Corp. the next 15 years.
For the next 10 years, Mr. Osborn was president and general manager of Loehr Employment Service, with offices in Cape Girardeau, and in Carbondale and Mount Vernon, Ill. In 1977, Mr. Osborn accepted a position as internal auditor for Southeast Missouri State University.
From 1978 through the 2002 football season, Mr. Osborn was the official timekeeper and manager of scoreboard operations for all Southeast University and Central High School football games at Houck Stadium.
Mr. Osborn was first vice president of Missouri Jaycees in 1957-58, and was state nominations and elections chairman in 1958-59.
He served as general chairman of Jaycees Public Golf Course from 1959-61. He was chairman of Men's Golf Association at Kimbeland Country Club in 1964-65, and secretary/treasurer of Men's Golf Association at Cape Girardeau Country Club from 1973-83. He loved playing golf, shot a 73 at the age of 75, and made a hole in one in 1997.
Mr. Osborn is survived by his wife of 52 years; four children, Joyce Barylski of Cape Girardeau, Jim Osborn and wife Diana of Poplar Bluff, Mo., John Osborn of Cape Girardeau, and Julie Osborn of Arnold, Mo.
He is also survived by five grandchildren, Dan Barylski of St. Charles, Mo., Mark Barylski of Springfield, Mo., Andrea Osborn of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Lynette and Matthew Osborn of Poplar Bluff. His aunt, Vacal Henson of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Centralia, survives also.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home, with the Rev. Steve Proctor officiating. Interment will be in Cape County Memorial Park.
