Frank Albert Maevers Sr., 89, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2010, at Missouri Veterans Home.
He was born March 25, 1921, in Cape Girardeau, to Albert F. and Laura Ann Lueder Maevers. He and Lillian Baldwin were married May 5, 1943, in Cape Girardeau.
Mr. Maevers was a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ. He had worked at the shoe factory in Cape Girardeau before working at Southeast Missouri State University more than 38 years.
He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater. He was a Purple Heart recipient.
Mr. Maevers was a charter member of Cape Girardeau Police Auxiliary, lifetime member of VFW Post 3838, member of DAV, and had volunteered at FISH and Meals on Wheels.
Survivors include a daughter, Marilyn Miller (Steve) of Charleston, Mo.; two sons, Frank Maevers Jr. and Ted Maevers of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Lillian Graden of Cape Girardeau; three grandchildren, Laura Hughes (Dale) of Cincinnati, Ohio, Reid Miller (Jacquie) of Belmont, Miss., and Ame Maevers of Cape Girardeau.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lawrence L. Maevers; and a sister, Hulda Moore.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with Dan Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park with full military rites conducted by Missouri Honor Guard.
