Frank Bertrand

Frank C. Bertrand, 84, of Cape Girardeau, beloved husband of Martha Hopper Bertrand, entered into eternal rest Jan. 2, 2016.

Frank was born March 24, 1931, in Jackson to Frank C. and Zetta Essner Bertrand.

He served in the United States Army from Jan. 22, 1952, until Oct. 21, 1953. He served most of his military time in Korea and was honorably discharged as Sergeant First Class in 1953. Following his military service, he went to work on tow boats on the Mississippi River. In 1987, he retired as a riverboat captain from Cargill Carriers of St. Paul, Minnesota.

Surviving are his wife, Martha; one daughter, Jaynee (Ray) Juneau of Cape Girardeau; five sons, Stephen (Kathy) Bertrand of Washington, Missouri, Dennis (Chris) Bertrand of Atoka, Tennessee, and Chuck (Evelyn), David (Kathy) and Tom (Cindy) Bertrand, all of Cape Girardeau.

He is survived by 12 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are three brothers, Harry, Johnny and Ronny Bertrand, and two sisters, Lorraine Eaton and Shirley Schmidt, all of Cape Girardeau.

Visitation will be from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Hobbs Chapel Church on Highway 177 in Cape Girardeau.

Military graveside service will follow at Hobbs Chapel Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, family requests memorials be made to Hobbs Chapel Church, Frank the Fighter Foundation or VNA Hospice.
