Funeral for Francis Jay Schobey of Cape Girardeau will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel. The Rev. Mark Carbaugh will officiate. Burial will be in Lorimier Cemetery, with graveside rites by VFW Post 3838.

Friends may call at the chapel from 4-8 p.m. today.

Schobey, 78, died Thursday, April 15, 1999, at the Lutheran Home.

He was born May 10, 1920, in Buffalo, N.Y., son of Arthur L. Schobey. He married the former Virginia Daugherty Feb. 5, 1977, in Cape Girardeau.

Schobey had worked in the shipyards in Long Beach, Calif.; had been a construction contractor, and was a master woodcrafter. He was a member of Christian Faith Fellowship and VFW Post 3838.

He served with the U.S. Army in the Battle of the Bulge during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Arthur Schobey of Holts Summit, Timothy Schobey of Niceville, Fla., Dan Niemann of Springfield, Mass.; five daughters, Frances Hunt of Niceville, Fla., Tawnya Fuller and Rebecca Reid of Roswell, N.M., Dixie Crites of Jackson, Deanna Ware of Gordonville; 26 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter.
