Floyd Almond Smith, 93, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, May 24, 2021, at the Missouri Veterans Home.
He was born Jan. 8, 1928, in Torch, Missouri, to Lee Roy and Myrtie May Stewart Smith. He and Anna Mae Smith were married June 28, 1950, at Piggott, Arkansas.
He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran, serving three years active duty and one year Army Reserves. He retired from the Army National Guard as a sergeant major.
Floyd was a master auto and truck mechanic. He enjoyed restoring antique cars and trucks.
He was a Freewill Baptist, where he was very active in church life, taught Sunday school and led music.
He was a member of the Capaha Car Club, Egypt Mills Tractor Club, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3838, serving as commander, chaplain and various other positions.
Survivors include a daughter, Sandra "Sandy" (Jon) Vaughn of Marble Hill, Missouri; two sons, Michael (Mary) Smith of Cape Girardeau and Timothy (Karen) Smith of De Soto, Missouri; a sister, Judith (Ed) Dumbach of Cape Girardeau; six grandchildren, Samuel Smith, Savannah Smith, Lee Smith, Russell Smith, Jaime (Skip) Stroder and Stacie (Stephen) Dotson; five great-grandchildren, Trenton Smith, Cody (Lizz) Schremp, Tyler Stroder, Grant Dotson and Evan Dotson.
Floyd was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Elmer and Ray Smith; and six sisters, Wanda (Clarence) Morris, Evelyn (Glen) Johnson, Muriel (Anthony) Dombroski, Jo (Pete) Francis, Lyda (Ivan) Fornkahl and Virginia (Rodney) Poston.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Donny Ford and Phil Thompson officiating. Burial with full military honors will be at Fairmount Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
