SIKESTON, Mo. -- Flora M. Hawkins, 105, of Sikeston died Tuesday, March 15, 2005, at the Sikeston Convalescent Center.
She was born Nov. 12, 1899, in Greenfield, Mo., daughter of Joseph and Laura Sloan McLemore. She moved to Sikeston from Kansas City, Mo., in 1972. She graduated from Drury College in Springfield, Mo., with a degree in teaching. She taught elementary school in Greenfield, Mo., and Kansas City for a number of years. She had also been a buyer for the millinery department of Macy's Department Store in Kansas City for many years.
Hawkins was also a member of the Van Brunt Presbyterian Church in Kansas City and was a member of Hunter Memorial First Presbyterian Church in Sikeston.
She and Lester R. Hawkins were married June 10, 1922, in Kansas City, Mo. He died July 24, 1953.
Survivors include a daughter, Sally Alhvin of Sikeston; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by a son, a brother and a sister.
A private family graveside service will be held at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Kansas City. A service at Hunter Memorial First Presbyterian Church will be at a later date. Nunnelee Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
