LEOPOLD, Mo. -- Fern Ellen Schreckenberg, 73, of Leopold died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2022, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau. Born in Benton, Missouri, April 3, 1948, she was the daughter of Wayne and Oma Zena Hopkins Diamond. She and Pat G. Schreckenberg were married on July 16, 1966. He preceded her in death April 18, 2018...

LEOPOLD, Mo. -- Fern Ellen Schreckenberg, 73, of Leopold died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2022, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

Born in Benton, Missouri, April 3, 1948, she was the daughter of Wayne and Oma Zena Hopkins Diamond. She and Pat G. Schreckenberg were married on July 16, 1966. He preceded her in death April 18, 2018.

Fern retired from Dana Corporation, where she worked as a line operator. For many years she worked at the Marble Hill, Missouri, hat factory.

She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Leopold, serving as a Eucharistic minister.

Fern is survived by sons, Wayne (Lisa) Schreckenberg of Leopold and Terry (Kristine) Schreckenberg of Chaffee, Missouri; daughter, Diane Pobst of Oran, Missouri; sister, Norma Kidd of St. Louis; niece, Kim Coffman of St. Louis; five grandchildren, Shane and Aaron Hodges, Blake and Trey Schreckenberg and Drew Pobst; and two great-grandchildren, Mason and Rhonnie Hodges.

Her husband and a brother, Larry Diamond, predeceased her.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today at St. John's Catholic Church in Leopold. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends and relatives at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Leopold following the service.

Hutchings Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements.
