EAST PRAIRIE -- Funeral for Faydean Shands of East Prairie will be held at 2 p.m. today at Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie. Burial will be in Anniston Cemetery.

Shands, 71, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

She was born July 10, 1928, near East Prairie, daughter of Charles and Orpa Bratcher Parker. She and Elvis C. Shands were married July 5, 1944. He died Oct. 11, 1964.

Shands was a member of First Pentecostal Church in Glen Allen.

Survivors include eight sons, Wayne, Terry, Jerry, Dennis, Randy and Mark Shands, all of East Prairie, Gene Shands of Granite City, Ill., Jay Shands of Glen Allen; four daughters, Debbie Ritchey of Granite City, Judy Thomas of Yuma, Ariz., Joan Mansfield of Sedgewickville, and Lawanda Shands of East Prairie.

Also surviving is a brother, Billy Parker of Granite City; three sisters, Dorothy Bard of Anniston, Pansy Adkisson of Shook, Daithel Gersbacher of Collinsville, Ill.; 40 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, a sister, and three grandchildren.
