Fay A. Amelunke, 89, of Jackson passed away Saturday, April 22, 2017, surrounded by her family at the Monticello House in Jackson. She was born Nov. 21, 1927, in Jackson, the daughter of Leo and Frieda Maag Nussbaum. She and Otto M. Amelunke were married Sept. 22, 1946. He preceded her in death May 10, 1985...

Fay A. Amelunke, 89, of Jackson passed away Saturday, April 22, 2017, surrounded by her family at the Monticello House in Jackson.

She was born Nov. 21, 1927, in Jackson, the daughter of Leo and Frieda Maag Nussbaum. She and Otto M. Amelunke were married Sept. 22, 1946. He preceded her in death May 10, 1985.

Fay was confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church in Gordonville.

She was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Shawneetown and has been a longtime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Tilsit.

She had been a Sunday-school teacher many years and was very involved with Lutheran Family and Children's Services, the Lutheran Women's Missionary League and the 4-H Club.

Fay worked as a nurse's aide for 11 years at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau and was an avid quilter and gardner.

Loving survivors include her four children, John Amelunke of Gordonville and Rodger (Vicki) Amelunke, Jeanne (Curtis) Wills and Steven Amelunke, all of Jackson; 10 grandchildren, Barbara Kay Amelunke-Varner, John Eric Amelunke, Katie Amelunke, Lucas Amelunke, Derek Amelunke, Melinda Sorbello-Amelunke, Lyndsey Milam, Daniel Wooldridge, Amy Wooldridge, and Max Wooldridge; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are a brother, Robert Nussbaum of Jackson, and four sisters, Vanna Hoyt and Joan Burns, both of Jackson, Lora Henk of Ironton, Missouri, and Gladys Kraemer of St. Charles, Missouri;

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two infant children; two brothers, Rudolph and Truman "Butch" Nussbaum; and four sisters, Viola Sadler, Dorothy Mateka, Nelda Craft and Colleen Weisenborn.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Mark Boettcher officiating. Interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

The family suggests contributions be made to the Lutheran Family and Children's Services or to Immanuel Lutheran Church at Tilsit.
