ZALMA -- E.W. "Wart" Phillips, 74, of Zalma, died Thursday, March 7, 1996, at his home.
He was born Dec. 12, 1921, near Zalma, son of Thomas H. and Ancie Gaines Phillips. He and Erma E. Pate were married May 3, 1927.
Phillips was a trustee for Union Hill Cemetery, member of VFW Post 5900, and member and deacon of Union Hill General Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Thomas Phillips of Zalma; two daughters, Pamela Garner of Marble Hill, Cynthia Rogers of Zalma; a brother, Willie Phillips of Columbia, Ill.; 11 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, a granddaughter and a great-grandson.
Friends may call at Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill after 4:30 p.m. today.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Union Hill Church, with the Revs. Bill Elledge and Gene Lineberry officiating. Burial will be in Union Hill Cemetery.
