Evon Loretta Schwettman, 85, of Cape Girardeau passed away Sunday, June 25, 2023, at the Lutheran Home.

She was born Sept. 27, 1937, in Morley, Missouri, daughter of Loftis and Palma McClain Evans. She and Jackie D. Schwettman were married at Hanover Lutheran Church on Feb. 20, 1960. He passed away Jan. 27, 2020.

Evon was a 1956 graduate of Chaffee (Missouri) High School. She worked at the former Superior Electric Co. and for many years as an executive secretary at the former Lone Star Cement Co. in Cape Girardeau.

Evon was a member of Hanover Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau. She and Jack enjoyed traveling the country, camping and showing their Tennessee walking horses in competitions.

Loving survivors include granddaughters, Brooke Schwettman of Altenburg, Missouri, Taylor Conrad of Paducah, Kentucky, Heather Conrad of Marble Hill, Missouri, and Amber Schwettman of Portageville, Missouri; and four great-grandchildren, Faith, Zane, Eli and Myah.

Also surviving are two brothers, Neal and Jim Evans; three sisters, Shirley Slinkard, Barbara Fiehler and Melissa Huey; and her beloved canine companion, Teddy.

In addition to her husband of 59 years, Evon was preceded by her parents; a daughter, Kimberly Susan Kennon; a son, Cameron Schwettman; a sister, Judith Groves; an infant sister, Betty Evans; and a nephew, Rick Slinkard.

Friends may call from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 28, at Hanover Lutheran Church.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 28, at the church, with the Rev. Rod A. Benkendorf officiating.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Hanover Lutheran Church or the Alzheimer's Association.

The family entrusted McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson with Evon's final arrangements.
