Evelyn C. Ramey, 88, of Cape Girardeau passed away Sunday, May 24, 2009, at the Lutheran Home.
She was born May 21, 1921, in Jackson, the biological daughter of Henry G. and Minnie Aufdenberg Borgfield. Evelyn was raised by her uncle and aunt, Henry and Agnes Kipping Aufdenberg. She and John K. "Jack" Ramey were married July 1, 1942. He passed away March 4, 1964.
Evelyn was an operator with Southwestern Bell Telephone in Cape Girardeau from 1939 to 1941. She transferred to San Diego in 1942, taking a position as an operator supervisor. From 1966 to 1986 she was a cook at Trinity Lutheran School, retiring as cafeteria manager.
She was baptized as a child at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson and has been a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau more than 75 years. She was a member of the adult choir, ladies guild and various church committees. She was a former member of Telephone Pioneers.
Loving survivors include two sons, Steve (Vicki) Ramey of Cape Girardeau, Rich (Monica) Ramey of Woodland Park, Colo.; a daughter, Beth (Don) Glaus of Cape Girardeau; a daughter-in-law, Jan Gilbert Ramey of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Francis Clark of St. Louis; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, John H. Ramey, on Jan. 11, 2008, and two brothers, Marvin Borgfield and Ramond G. Aufdenberg.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Loren Boetcher officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Evelyn to Trinity Lutheran School, Saxony Lutheran High School or Trinity Lutheran Church Living Hope.
