SIKESTON -- Evelyn Walters Hyslip, 70, of Sikeston, formerly of Mississippi County, died Saturday, Sept. 5, 1998, at the Clearview Nursing Center. She was born Nov. 14, 1927, in Mississippi County, daughter of Tyrus Henry and Julia Weakley Walters. She and the Rev. Virgil Hyslip were married on May 14, 1947. He died May 11, 1992...

SIKESTON -- Evelyn Walters Hyslip, 70, of Sikeston, formerly of Mississippi County, died Saturday, Sept. 5, 1998, at the Clearview Nursing Center.

She was born Nov. 14, 1927, in Mississippi County, daughter of Tyrus Henry and Julia Weakley Walters. She and the Rev. Virgil Hyslip were married on May 14, 1947. He died May 11, 1992.

She had lived in Mississippi and Scott counties most of her life. She was a member of the Tanner Street Church of God in Sikeston.

Survivors include four sons, John Hyslip of Kalispell, Mont., Donnie R. and Ken Hyslip, both of Sikeston, and Jim Hyslip of Rogersville, Ala.; three brothers, Kenneth Walters of Sikeston, Billy Walters of Springfield and Richard Walters of East Prairie; five sisters, Nadine Stallings, Maxine Talley and Ailene Norman, all of Sikeston, Bernita Stegall of Las Cruzes, N.M., and Ann Stretch of South Carolina; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. today at the Shelby Funeral Home Chapel in East Prairie. The Rev. Carl Addison will officiate, with burial in the Dogwood Cemetery.
