ANNA, Ill. - Eula Merle Coomes, 94, of Alton, Ill., formerly of Union County, died Wednesday, Aug. 11, at the Eldercare Nursing Center in Alton.
She was born in Anna, Ill., on Nov. 4, 1898, to Oliver and Izora Miller Poole. She married Oliver D. Coomes, who preceded her in death in 1966.
She is survived by two granddaughters, Judy Cantrell and Kathy Wenzel, both of Alton. Other survivors include three great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. Coomes was preceded in death by two daughters, Helen Coomes and Ann Rhymer, and two sisters.
She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Alton, and a former member of Salem Lutheran Church in Jonesboro, Ill.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m., today, at the Elias-Smith Funeral Home in Alton. Graveside services will be held Saturday, at 2 p.m., at St. John's Cemetery, near Dongola, Ill.
