HARTSELLE, Ala. -- Eugenia M. Blaylock, 86, of Hartselle, formerly of Jackson, passed away Friday, Feb. 16, 2018, at Westminster Assisted Living Center in Decatur, Alabama, after an extended battle with dementia.

She was born Jan. 9, 1932, in Chicago, daughter of John F. and Anna Kolarz Nowak. She and John R. Blaylock were married Feb. 10, 1952, in Chicago. After their wedding, John and Eugenia spent their first few years of married life in Hawaii, where Eugenia was employed as a bank teller. John and Eugenia decided to once again join family in Chicago, where they made their home.

Eugenia worked as a teller in financial institutions until 1960, when she and John started their own family with the birth of their son, John R. Blaylock Jr. Eugenia stayed at home for several years with her son, and then returned to work once again.

The family moved to Jackson in 1969, and she quickly found work in billing at Kasten Masonry and briefly in real estate sales. However, she found her dream job as a senior secretary at Southeast Missouri State University, where she was employed for 16 years before retiring in 1990.

Until her relocation to Hartselle in 2007 to be near her son and his family, Eugenia was a devoted member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and St. Ann's Sodality. She frequently volunteered in the church office and was on the church decorating committee. She also had enjoyed five years of service to their Parent's Morning Out program. Additionally, she had been an active volunteer at Saint Francis Medical Center and Cape Girardeau Convention and Visitors Bureau.
