EUGENE THOMPSON

Funeral service for Mason Eugene Thompson of Jerseyville, Ill., was held Sunday at Crawford-Holden Funeral Home in Jerseyville. The Rev. Tim Garrett officiated. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery, with military rites conducted by American Legion Post 492 and VFW Post 4528.

Thompson, 72, died Friday, July 25, 1997, at Alton Memorial Hospital.

He was born March 10, 1925, in Cape Girardeau, son of Mason and Katie Lenand Thompson. He and Helen M. Propst were married Sept. 19, 1943, at Chaffee.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Sharon Reif and Mary Varble of Carrollton, Ill.; a son, Larry Thompson of Jerseyville; his mother of Jerseyville; four grandsons; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son and brother.
