Funeral for Marvin Eugene "Gene" Scholz, formerly of Whitewater, Mo., will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Bethlehem General Baptist Church in Crump, Mo. The Revs. Joe Allen and Willis Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery at Jackson, Mo.

Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau from 1-8 p.m. today and at the church Sunday from noon until time of service. There will be no Sunday morning visitation at the funeral home.

Scholz, 83, died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2001, at the home of a daughter in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Jan. 29, 1918, at Whitewater, son of William and Cora Edith Snell Scholz. He and Dorothy Lucille Eakins were married March 5, 1938, at Marble Hill, Mo.

Scholz farmed many years at Whitewater, and worked for Cape Girardeau County Highway Maintenance Department. He was a member and deacon at Bethlehem General Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Shirley Gregory of Cape Girardeau, Cathy Campbell of St. Louis; two brothers, John Scholz of Whitewater, Bob Scholz of Jackson; three sisters, Aminell Stroder, Gladys Barbee and Pearl Harless, all of St. Louis; 11 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, a grandson, two brothers and a sister.
