JACKSON -- Eugene Rice, 85, of Jackson, died at his home Friday, May 24, 1991.
He was born Oct. 12, 1905, in Evansville, Ind., son of P.A. and Sadie Deuischer Rice. He married Hope Gohn on Feb. 6, 1955.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Douglas Rice of Lamar; three daughters, Judy Hubbard of LaPort, Ind., Jean Meinke and Betty Stidham of San Antonio, Texas; several grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, a sister and a daughter.
Rice was past president of the Telephone Pioneers Group; a member of Wesley United Methodist Church at Fruitland, and a past recipient of the Denman Evangelism Award.
He worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone 40 years. He also worked as a professional bail bondsman for 20 years before retiring, in 1987.
He served in the Army during World War II.
Service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson, with the Rev. Dave Conley officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. today.
