Etta Louise Ayers, 81, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2022 at Saint Francis Medical Center.
She was born July 14, 1940 in Clarksdale, Mississippi, to Sidney Perkins and Louella Booker Lewis. She and Joe Thomas Ayers were married May 22, 1961. at Parma, Missouri. He preceded her in death on June 27, 2013.
She attended John S. Cobb School and graduated from Cape Girardeau Central High School.
She worked for Florsheim Shoe, Ratliff Nursing Center and Cape Montessori School.
She was a member of Greater Dimension Church.
Survivors include two brothers, Walter L. Holman of St. Louis and Nathaniel B. (Sue) Lewis of Oakville, Missouri; sister, Joyce L. (Anderson) Thrower of Douglas, Georgia; five sons, Scott (Cassandra) Ayers of Cape Girardeau, Paul (Stacy) Ayers of Gastonia, North Carolina, Joe (Wendy) Ayers Jr. of Euless, Texas, Darius Ayers of Columbia, Missouri and Sam (Kellie) Smith of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; six daughters, Tina Ayers Wright and Tiesha Johnson of Cape Girardeau, Angela Ayers, Felicia "Lisa" Ayers, Demetria Stephens and Stacie Ayers of Columbia; honorary daughter, Angelita Allen; 43 grandchildren; and 57 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Willie and James Lewis; sister, Marian L Walker; and stepdaughter, Kelia Johnson.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday at Greater Dimension Ministries in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral service will be at noon Saturday at Greater Dimension Ministries in Cape Girardeau with the Elder William Bird, Jr. officiating. Burial will be at Fairmount Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
Memorial contributions may be given to American Cancer Society.
