LEOPOLD, Mo. -- Ethel Ann Thiele, 85, of Leopold passed away Saturday, Aug. 26, 2017, at Ratliff Care Center in Cape Girardeau after an extended illness.
She was born May 11, 1932, in Leopold, daughter of the late John Henry and Helen Elizabeth Holzum Seiler.
She and Glen Anthony Thiele were married April 16, 1952. He preceded her in death in March 2009.
Ethel was a graduate of St. Mary's High School in Cape Girardeau.
She was a lifelong member of St. John Catholic Church and St. Anne Ladies' Sodality PCCW.
Her hobbies included quilting, gardening and cheering for Leopold High School sports and the St. Louis Cardinals.
Survivors include six children, Glenda (Duane) Welter, Donna (Roger) Essner and Carol Thiele, all of Cape Girardeau, and Robert (Georgia) Thiele, Roger (Bonnie) Thiele and Barbara (Roger) Bucher, all of Leopold, and one sister, Esther Jansen of St. Charles, Missouri. Ethel was also a beloved grandmother to many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents; two brothers, Orval and Omer Seiler; and two sisters, Wilma and Edith Seiler.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hutchings Funeral Chapel in Marble Hill, with parish prayers and rosary at 7 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John Catholic Church in Leopold, with the Rev. David Coon officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
