CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Ethel Steakley Rowell, 88, of Chaffee died Sunday, March 2, 2014, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
She was born Jan. 18, 1926, in Perkins, Mo., to the late George Samuel and Florence Russell Steakley. She and Raymond B. Rowell were married Dec. 6, 1947.
She was a member of Chaffee General Baptist Church. She taught and worked in the kitchen for several years during vacation Bible school. She also was a member for more than 25 years of the Ladies Auxiliary of Chaffee VFW Post No. 3127. She loved to fish, cook and tell stories.
Survivors include her husband of the home; a daughter, Florence "Sugar" (Rusty) McBride of St. Robert, Mo; one granddaughter, Sammye (Kevin) Lawson of Dixon, Mo.; three great-grandchildren, Becky, Tyler and Jake Lawson, all of Dixon; and one sister, Anna May (Floyd) Smith of Cape Girardeau.
She was preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters.
Friends may call after 4 p.m. Wednesday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Home in Chaffee.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Chaffee General Baptist Church. Burial will be in Oddfellow Cemetery in Charleston, Mo.
