Esther M. Nussbaum, 97, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, March 27, 2010, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
She was born March 7, 1913, in Dutchtown, the daughter of Arnold E. and Elizabeth L. Koehler Geiser. She and Emil P. Nussbaum were married July 22, 1934, in Cape Girardeau.
She was a lifetime member of Evangelical United Church of Christ where she was very active. She was formerly a member of the Mary and Martha Circle and the Friendship Circle. She also taught Sunday school for 21 years, from 1939 to 1960.
She was a cook at Franklin School and the former Pac-A-Snac. She had previously worked as a laster at International Shoe.
Survivors include her daughter and son, Shirley A. Medlock and Ralph A. Nussbaum, both of Cape Girardeau; six grandchildren, Lisa G. (Joe) Clifton of Cary, N.C., Mark W. Nussbaum of Fruitland, Greg Medlock of Macon, Ga., Chris P. (Cheryl) Nussbaum of Perryville, Mo., Randy L. Medlock of Greenbrier, Ark., Michele R. (Steve) Schabbing of Gordonville; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers and one sister.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dan Johnson and the Rev. Ernest Jordan officiating. Burial will follow at Cape County Memorial Park.
