Esther L. Ackman, 94, of Cape Girardeau passed away Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2005, at Perry County Nursing Home, where she had been a resident since 2001. She was born Oct. 14, 1910, at Neelys Landing, daughter of Pearl and Maggie Foster McCain. She and Robert D. Ackman were married Jan. 31, 1931, in Murphysboro, Ill. He passed away Oct. 28, 1975...

Esther L. Ackman, 94, of Cape Girardeau passed away Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2005, at Perry County Nursing Home, where she had been a resident since 2001.

She was born Oct. 14, 1910, at Neelys Landing, daughter of Pearl and Maggie Foster McCain. She and Robert D. Ackman were married Jan. 31, 1931, in Murphysboro, Ill. He passed away Oct. 28, 1975.

Esther moved from Neelys Landing to Cape Girardeau in 1939, and became a member of First Baptist Church. She transferred her membership in 1965 to New Bethel Baptist Church near Pocahontas.

While living in Cape Girardeau she and Robert boarded many college students through the years.

Esther enjoyed flower gardening, quilting and cooking.

Loving survivors include two sons, Marvin Ackman and wife Freda of Florissant, Mo., Clarence Ackman and wife Kathy of Cape Girardeau; two daughters, Carol Dryer and husband Gene of Perryville, Mo., Shirley Bohnert of Cape Girardeau; three sisters, Irene Wiggins of Jackson, Jean Bates of Idaho, Pat McCabe of St. Louis; nine grandchildren, Kenny, Karen, Donna, Tara, David, Khristy, Kim, Kevin, and Paul; and 19 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded by an infant son, Charles Lloyd Ackman; a great-grandson, Nicholas Bohnert; a son-in-law, Herb Bohnert; four brothers; and a sister.

Friends may call today from 4 to 7 p.m. at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau, and after 10 a.m. Saturday at New Bethel Baptist Church.

The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the church, with the Rev. John Rhodes officiating. Interment will be in New Bethel Cemetery near Pocahontas.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to New Bethel Cemetery, Perry County Nursing Home, or Southeast Hospice.
