DEXTER -- Estel Iva Proffer, 80, of Dexter died Saturday, Dec. 20, 1997 at her home.
She was born May 27, 1917, at Dexter, the daughter of Lawrence E. and Nora Gibbs Brown. She married Herman R. Proffer in November 1943. He died August 1980.
Proffer was a homemaker and had lived in Kennett for 40 years before returning to Dexter in 1987. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Kennett.
Survivors include a nephew, Lawrence Carwile of Dexter; three nieces, Betty Carwile Joyner of Dexter, Bonnie Hester of San Antonio and Pat Jacobus of St. Louis; several great- and great-great-nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, with the Rev. Bob Wiggins officiating. Burial will be in the Dexter Cemetery.
