CHAFFEE -- Erwin "Butch" Schmitt, 71, of Chaffee Route 1, died Saturday, Sept. 28, 1991, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Jan. 30, 1920 in New Hamburg, the son of Ludonis and Anna Weber Schmitt.
On Dec. 12, 1942, he married Lucille Wolfe at Chaffee. She survives.
He retired 9 years ago from Florsheim Shoe Company in Chaffee and was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Chaffee.
He is survived by three sons, Charles Schmitt, Chaffee, Dennis Schmitt and Earl Schmitt, both of Cape Girardeau; two daughters, Anna Smith, Cape Girardeau, Brenda Shelton, Chaffee; one brother, Leo Schmitt, Chaffee; two sisters, Alvina Scheeter, Chaffee, Louise Hess, Chaffee; nine grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
One brother, three sisters and two grandchildren preceded him in death.
Friends may call after 2 p.m. today at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Home in Chaffee. Parish prayers will be recited at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church with the Rev. Allan Saunders officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
