The Rev. Ernest Jordan, 87, of Jackson died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Tuesday, May 12, 1925, in Bunker, Mo., to the late Raymond Everett and Ada Celeste Lowrence Jordan.
The Rev. Jordan was a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Eden Seminary. He taught classes at Southeast Missouri State University and was an associate chaplain at Southeast Hospital. After serving several churches in Illinois, the Rev. Jordan came to Cape Girardeau to the Evangelical United Church of Christ and pastored there from 1968 until his retirement in 1990.
He and his son Ron experienced the Tiger Cruise on aircraft carrier USS Forrestal and he also was a part of The Honor Tour for World War II Veterans to Washington, D.C. He loved to read, fly, go fishing and tell stories. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ida Mae Jordan of Jackson; a son, Ronald Lee (Dee) Jordan of Pensacola, Fla.; daughters, Denise (Jose) Jordan-Izaguirre of Overland Park, Kan., and Tina (Patrick) Abbott of Cape Girardeau; eight grandchildren, Lee Jay Jordan, Yvonne Goellner, Jason and Bryan Jordan, Alejandro and Brisa Izaguirre and Samuel and Maxwell Abbott; and ten great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Evangelical United Church of Christ, with the Revs. Dan Johnson, Jeff Long and David Schaffner officiating.
Private burial with full military rites will take place Monday at Salem Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the United Church of Christ Retired Clergy Emergency Fund or the Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.
