Ernest B. Hooten, 84, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, Aug. 16, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center. He was born Sept. 22, 1914, in Hilham, Tenn., son of James Travis and Osie Geeslin Hooten. He and Effie Pauline James were married Aug. 10, 1947. She died Feb. 14, 1997...

Ernest B. Hooten, 84, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, Aug. 16, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.

He was born Sept. 22, 1914, in Hilham, Tenn., son of James Travis and Osie Geeslin Hooten. He and Effie Pauline James were married Aug. 10, 1947. She died Feb. 14, 1997.

Hooten lived in East Prairie most of his life, and was a member of First Church of God. He moved to Cape Girardeau in May 1998, and attended West Side Church of God.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include a daughter, Paula Walker of Cape Girardeau; two sisters, Dovie Whitehead and Lovell Lazenby of Anderson, Ind.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.

Friends may call at Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie after 5 p.m. today.

Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at First Church of God in East Prairie. Larry Smith and Jon Rehbein will officiate. Burial will be in East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery.
