Erna L. Shell, 87, of Jackson passed away Thursday, Aug. 9, 2007, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
She was born Feb. 13, 1920, in Oak Ridge, daughter of Fred W. and Cora Ruppel Pohlman. She and Irwin Shell were married April 9, 1939, in Oak Ridge. He passed away Nov. 29, 2000.
Erna was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Friedheim. She and Irwin lived on the Shell farm north of Oak Ridge until they retired from farming and moved to Jackson in 1975. She was assistant postmaster at Oak Ridge a number of years.
Erna was a former member of the Ladies Aid at Friedheim, St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson, former member of Oak Ridge Extension Club, Goshen Club, and MFA Club. She had received a 45-year pin from the University of Missouri Extension Service.
In 1988 she and Irwin moved their church membership from Trinity Lutheran in Friedheim to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson.
Loving survivors include two brothers and sisters-in-law, Delmar and Lillian Pohlman of Oak Ridge, Melvin and Mildred Pohlman of Jackson; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Elda Kutscher, and a stillborn brother.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. David Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery.
