BLOOMFIELD -- Ermer James Garner, 84, of Bloomfield, died Monday, April 11, 1994, at his home.

He was born Nov. 11, 1909, at Bell City, son of George M. and Ada Belle Summers Garner. He and Helen Friedlein were married Jan. 2, 1935, in Cape Girardeau.

After graduating from business college he began work as deputy circuit clerk, and in 1955 was elected circuit clerk. He served as clerk of the Magistrate Court from 1965-70.

Garner served as presiding judge of the County Court from 1970-78, was clerk assessor from 1979-81, and was collector of Castor Township from 1982-86.

He also owned and operated Garner Real Estate here 50 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Bloomfield Lodge 153 AF&AM, and Order of Eastern Star Chapter 385.

Survivors include his wife; a son, James Garner of Dexter; two brothers, Herbert Garner of Jackson, Eugene Garner of Bell City; a sister, Estelle Jennings of Bell City; seven grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, two brothers and two sisters.

Friends may call at Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home after 5 p.m. today. A Masonic service will be held t 7:30.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Greg Greason officiating. Burial will be in Bloomfield Cemetery.
