JACKSON -- Emil C. Heider, 75, of Jackson, died Thursday, June 23, 1994, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
He was born Oct. 23, 1918, at Cape Girardeau, son of Karl and Minnie Pensel Heider.
He married Gertrude P. Voss, Dec. 9, 1945, at Gordonville.
Heider was a veteran of World War II, having served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star, the Three Overseas bar, and European-African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign ribbon. He fought at Normandy, Central Europe, Rhineland, Ardennes and Northern France. He also served in the U.S. Air Force.
He worked an auto mechanic for Ford Groves and Martin Froemsdorf Garage. He later worked for the Southeast Missouri State University custodial department for 11 years. He retired in 1985.
Heider was a member of the Hanover Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife; a son, David K. Heider of San Diego, Calif.; three daughters, Beverly Brase of Gordonville, Carole Schenimann of Egypt Mills, Mary Schuessler of Cape Girardeau; two brothers, Martin Heider of Willow Springs, Carlton Heider of Webster Groves; a sister, Sophia Vaughn of Belleville, Ill.; 13 grandchildren and a great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by a son.
Friends may call 4-8 p.m. today at the Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Hanover Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Jeffrey Sippy officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery, where a military service will be conducted by VFW Post 3838, the National Guard 1140th Engineering Battalion and the National Guard 135th Engineering Group.
