ORAN -- Elvert F. Evans, 76, Oran Route 2, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 1997, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau due to complications following open heart surgery.

He was born July 3, 1921, in Hazen, Ark., son of Jesse and Annie Phifer Evans. She and Ruth A. Smith were married Nov. 2, 1941, at Senath.

Evans was a retired farmer. He was a member and deacon at First Baptist Church in Vanduser. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Richard Evans of Brockport, N.Y.; two daughters, Becky Kesler, Oran Route 2, Sandy Evans of Sikeston; two sisters, Helen Wilkins and Mildred Langdon of Hornersville; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother.

Friends may call at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston from 5-9 p.m. today.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the chapel, with the Rev. Loren Robinson officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hills Cemetery at Morley.
