Elton A. Meyr, age 84, formerly of New Wells, Mo., passed away Thursday, Oct. 14, 2004, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau, where he been a resident since 2001. He was born Oct. 25, 1919, at New Wells, the son of August and Louise Haertling Meyr. He and Norma H. Grebing were married Oct. 11, 1942, in Frohna, Mo. She passed away Dec. 6, 2002...

Elton A. Meyr, age 84, formerly of New Wells, Mo., passed away Thursday, Oct. 14, 2004, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau, where he been a resident since 2001.

He was born Oct. 25, 1919, at New Wells, the son of August and Louise Haertling Meyr. He and Norma H. Grebing were married Oct. 11, 1942, in Frohna, Mo. She passed away Dec. 6, 2002.

Elton was a life-long member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of New Wells. He was a member of the Fellowship Club, the adult choir and a former elder of the church.

He was a former school board member of Concordia Trinity Lutheran School in Frohna and had been a member of the Roll-A-Ways Square Dance Club in Cape Girardeau. Elton farmed in the New Wells community all his life.

Loving survivors include a son, Ronald Meyr of New Wells; daughter and son-in-law Susan and Lynn Ludwig of Shawneetown, Mo.; three sisters, Sophia Reisenbichler of Perryville, Mo., Alida Sexton of St. Louis, Mo., Milta Bohlman of St. Charles, Mo.

Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Bradley Meyr and wife Kristi of New Wells, Joshua Meyr of St. Louis, Penny Eatherton and husband Ben of Pocahontas, Jena Mabry and husband Branson of Altenburg, Mo., Paula Niedbalski and husband Scott of New Wells, Joleta and Cassie Ludwig of Shawneetown; six great-grandchildren, Chelsea and Ashlee Eatherton, Cody Schoenebeck, Amanda Mabry and Bryn and Jonathan Meyr.

In addition to his wife, he was also preceded in death by a son, Gary Meyr; a daughter-in-law, Janice Meyr; and a brother, Erwin Meyr.

Friends may call today from 4 to 8 p.m. at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson and after 1 p.m. Sunday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Wells.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the church with the Rev. Walter Patzwitz officiating. Burial will follow in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in New Wells.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Immanuel Lutheran Church, the church's tuition fund or the donor's choice.
