CAPE GIRARDEAU -- Service for Elsie J. Phillips will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Ford & Sons, Sprigg Street Chapel, with Rev. Ed Stovall officiating. Burial will be in Lindsey Cemetery, at McClure, Ill.

Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Phillips, 88 years old, of Waterloo, Ill., formerly of McClure, died Dec. 23, 1990, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Belleville, Ill.

She was born at McClure on Jan. 4, 1902, daughter of Edward and Malinda Goodman Gearing.

On Feb. 7, 1920, she married Thomas Harold Phillips at Cape Girardeau. He preceded her in death in April of 1981.

She was a member of the Jerome Lane Baptist Church in Cahokia, Ill.

Survivors include a son, Paul H. Phillips of Dupo, Ill; daughters, Helen Dillon of Waterloo, Mildred Randol of Canton, Ga., Lucille Phillips of Tumwater, Wash., and Delores Hood, of Dupo; sisters, Bertha Bradshaw and Ivy Emmons, both of McClure; 11 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; and two great, great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
