Elmo Underwood, 89, of South Fulton, Tenn., died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, at Parkway Regional Hospital in Fulton, Ky. He was born Oct. 17, 1919, in Graves County, Ky., son of George Arthur and Ida May Willie. He married Ruth Babb. Underwood was a retired salesman. He lived in the Cape Girardeau area about 20 years, returning to the South Fulton area in 1973. He was a member of VFW Post 3838 in Cape Girardeau 45 years...

Elmo Underwood, 89, of South Fulton, Tenn., died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, at Parkway Regional Hospital in Fulton, Ky.

He was born Oct. 17, 1919, in Graves County, Ky., son of George Arthur and Ida May Willie. He married Ruth Babb.

Underwood was a retired salesman. He lived in the Cape Girardeau area about 20 years, returning to the South Fulton area in 1973. He was a member of VFW Post 3838 in Cape Girardeau 45 years.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include a daughter, Rita Mitchell of Fulton; two stepsons, Bill Hobson of Phoenix, Ray Ham of Atkins, Texas; a sister, Jackie Armbruster of Fulgham, Ky.; three grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two great-stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, a daughter, a brother and two sisters.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to service time today at Hornbeak Funeral Chapel in Fulton.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at the chapel. Burial will be in Clark Cemetery.
