ORAN -- Funeral Mass for Elmer James Welter of Oran will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Guardian Angel Catholic Church. Msgr. Richard Rolwing and the Rev. Normand Varone will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery, with military graveside rites.
Friends may call at the church after 4 p.m. today. Parish prayers will be at 7, and Knights of Columbus prayer service at 7:30.
Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel at Oran is in charge of arrangements.
Welter, 74, died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 1998, at his home.
He was born Sept. 9, 1923, at Oran, son of August Jacob and Emma Marie Schlosser Welter. He and Amonell "Amy" Martin were married July 3, 1948.
Welter was a Standard Oil agent with Amoco Gas Co. in Oran, retiring in 1976. He drove a truck part time for Halter Gas Co. in Oran, retiring in 1988.
He was a member of Guardian Angel Church, St. Joseph Sodality, Knights of Columbus Council 4311, and Morley VFW Post 5368. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Janell Hinkebein of Jackson, Janay Berry of Oran, Janice Noser of Oswego, Ill.; a sister, Germaine Schlitt of Oran; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
