JACKSON -- Elmer L. Proctor, 75, of Jackson died Thursday, Jan. 21, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born March 4, 1923, at Scopus, son of Kennall and Ethel Crader Proctor. He and Alene Hartle were married Aug. 23, 1945, in Jackson.
Proctor first worked as a carpenter with Henley Clark Construction in Millersville. He started Proctor-Jones Construction Co. in 1954, and then owned and operated Elmer Proctor Construction Co. from 1965 until retiring in 1985.
He was a member of Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post in Jackson, the Legion Honor Guard, and had served as a trustee of the legion many years. He was a member of VFW Post 3838 in Cape Girardeau.
Proctor served with the U.S. Marine Corps in the Philippines during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Karen Grebing of Jackson; two brothers, Bobby Proctor of Phoenix, Ariz., Odell Proctor of St. Charles; and a sister, Virginia Seabaugh of Sikeston.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson from 4:30-8 p.m. today. An American Legion Honor Guard service will be held at 7.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Morris Cobb officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery.
