JACKSON, Mo. -- Elmer Eugene Macke, 70, of Jackson died Saturday, March 30, 2002, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Feb. 24, 1932, at Tilsit, Mo., son of William and Frieda Biester Macke. He and Lawanda Fisher were married May 25, 1956.

Macke was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean War. He was a lifetime member of the VFW in Cape Girardeau, a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson, but was baptized and confirmed as a youth at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Tilsit. He had worked on a riverboat for the former John I. Hay Company, but became disabled in 1971.

Survivors include five daughters, Patricia Hedricks of McClure, Ill., Pamela Macke of Jackson, Phyllis Ruesler of Friedheim, Mo., Paula Thompson of Jackson and Caroline Hoxworth of Millersville, Mo.; three sons, Jon Macke of Millersville, Michael Macke of Jackson and Joe Macke of Oak Ridge, Mo.; a brother, Earnest Macke of St. Louis; and 12 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Robert Henrichs officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery with a military honors graveside service.
