Funeral service for Elmer J. Welter, 1544 Dunklin, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Grace United Methodist Church. The Revs. Ernest Swartz and Harold Henderson will officiate, with burial in Fairmount Cemetery. Graveside service will be conducted by Scott City VFW Post 6407.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel from 4-8 p.m. today.
Welter, 72, died Wednesday, March 23, 1994, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
He was born May 22, 1921, at Ancell, son of Charles J. and Regina Essner Welter. He and Shirley Anderson were married March 13, 1947, in Cape Girardeau.
Welter was a clerk with Cotton Belt Railroad 18 years, and had owned and operated Central Barber Shop in Scott City the past 36 years. He was a member of Grace Church, and VFW Post 6407. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Richard Welter of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Cheryl Stovall of Cape Girardeau; three sisters, Maurine Brunkhorst of Cape Girardeau, Mary Mitchell of Richmond, Va., Mildred Miget Nilges of Florissant; three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers.
